Reuse our pint containers!

We love talking about our flavors and ingredients, but we also think a lot about waste; from reducing food waste to composting and trying to choose packaging that won’t end up in landfills. As it is “Earth Month” (shouldn’t every month be earth month?) we’re reflecting on sustainability goals we still thrive to achieve, as well as the choices we have made so far.

We’re inspired by our friends to the north, Earnest Ice Cream, who use glass ice cream pints that can be returned and refilled. While we’d love to have a similar program, we don’t have the space to store or sanitize all of those glass containers. Instead we did the next best thing and chose a high quality plastic container, that, while it can’t be refilled by us (it’s illegal), can be endlessly reused at home!

Folks often ask why we don’t use paper pint containers. While they are the cheapest option, they are also the least sustainable. Paper pint containers are coated in plastic (otherwise they would deteriorate in the freezer), the plastic coating means that the paper can’t be recycled. Instead the containers end up in a landfill, plastic coating and all.

Our pint containers are not only recyclable, but VERY reusable. They are BPA free plastic, air tight, & freezer safe. They are also quite durable, holding up to drops, hundreds of washes, and all kinds of content (nails, screws, thumbtacks).

Some things we like to store in our pints when they no longer contain ice cream are…

  • Plants or containers for starting seeds (the lids are great as saucers to catch any water runoff!) Check out THIS video for a tutorial on how to turn your pint into a planter.

  • Leftovers

  • Homemade sugar scrubs (We make ours with coconut oil & brown sugar!)

  • Playdough

  • Craft and hardware supply storage

  • Cake decorating & piping tips

  • Cookies

Please consider ways of reusing pint containers before tossing them in the recycling bin. Always be reducing, reusing, & recycling!
