Our Wackiest Flavors!

Join us for a walk down memory lane as we reflect on some of our Wackiest Flavors! Since 2012 we have done a lot of wacky things with ice cream sandwiches and these are our top 10… From bacon, to beer, to cheese, and even bagels.

KOKO BLUE & FAT CAT’S CREAMSICLE

In 2016 we had a three-way food fight with Birch Run Creamery and Di Bruno Brothers. Using two of Birchrun’s signature farmstead cheeses, we created two unique sandwiches. Koko Blue was built on a foundation of dark milk chocolate ice cream studded with blue cheese and candied walnuts between bourbon brown sugar cookies.. Fat Cat’s Creamsicle saw a cave aged alpine semi-soft cheese turned into ice cream, slathered with blood orange balsamic marmalade and sandwiched between olive oil shortbread cookies.

SHOPSIN CLUB

This one was the result of an unbridled collaboration with Middle Child in 2019. Based on one of their signature sandwiches, we went nuts combining bacon sugar cookies, Bread & Butter pickled Cranberry Jam, Miso ice cream, Avocado Jam, and Toast ice cream. Some said we went too far with this one… maybe we did.

LUCKY PIG

We worked with Chef Andrew Wood to create an ice cream sandwich that celebrated fall and Wyebrook Farm’s heritage breed pork. Apple laurel ice cream, lard shortbread, and bacon caramel leaned savory and was quite a treat.

BAGLR’S RHAPSODY

This one debuted on the Fishtown Shop’s opening day. We steeped a whole bunch of Philly Style Bagels the pasteurizer to infuse the ice cream, added a layer of poppy jam, and sandwiched it all between sesame cookies.

APPLES & CHEDDAR and CHEESE & CRACKERS

Sounded wacky but they were DELICIOUS. Made with local cheddar cheeses, apples, and very flakey and delicious cookies. Think Cheez-Its and Ice Cream.

JUST DUCKY

A collaboration with chefs Sam Kincaid and Jon Nodler of the now-shuttered and greatly missed Cadence Restaurant. This one came out on March 14th, 2020, two days before everything shut down due to Covid. The sandwich was based on the restaurant’s famed duck dish and derived a pleasant smokiness from Deer Creek smoked malt. Local pumpkin & sunflower seed streusel, and a French custard variation of Sam’s sunflower oil ice cream were layered between on Szechuan spiced duck shaped cookies!

STRAWBERRY LOVAGE

This flavor was only wacky because Andy insisted (and still insists) that lovage is a great ice cream flavor 😆 Ian Brendle of Green Meadow Farm planted the seed for this one by bringing us a bunch of lovage. What’s lovage? It’s a hearty green herb that tastes like a cross between parsley and celery. We paired lovage ice cream with Roasted Strawberry ice cream, strawberry jam, and shortbread cookies. Rest in Peace, Lovage ice cream.

THAT BEER ONE

Perhaps our only ice cream sandwich with beer in it. Layers of Yards Brewing Love Stout ice cream and coffee ice cream on chocolate cookies. If you love beer it worked, if you didn’t love beer it was maybe too funky for you.
